You may have to overcome a few
barriers when leaving your car behind, and that's where
we can help. There is a 5 point plan further down the
page, but we know there will be lots of people who might
consider the initiative, but feel it would be a
difficult task to complete.
First and foremost, we can be contacted via
e-mail,
through
Facebook or
Twitter, where you can get advice
and guidance on taking the step to becoming 'car free' one
day at a time.
- If you feel you can cycle, run or
walk in to work on the 5th, you might be put off by the
lack of shower facilities. Some Local Authorities
provide matched funding for their installation.
- You can reduce your distance of
the first and subsequent journeys by driving part of the
way then taking alternative transport.
- Improve your confidence, if you
haven't tried public transport for a while, consider
going with a friend or colleague, if you haven't ridden
a cycle for a while then contact your Local Council and
ask what facilities they have for training. If there is
a local cycle track you can improve your confidence by
taking a few laps of the course.
Once you've made the decision not to take
your car, consider our 5 point plan to kick start and continue
not driving on the 5. |
5 tips to help you not to
drive on the 5
1. Prepare - decide how you will
make your journey without your car.
2. Plan - study timetables, then the
night before, if running or cycling, lay out clothing and
anything else you might need
3. Probe - How successful was my
journey? Did it work?
4. Profit - Consider how much
you'll save, not just the monetary value, but the benefits to
your health, and reducing CO2 emissions.
5. Pick - Choose another don't
drive on the 5 day!
Good luck! |
